I have been a Kaiser patient for 45 years. I am a 71-year-old female who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 20 years ago. I have had four surgeries on both feet relating to this condition. I have also, more recently, been diagnosed with neuropathy. Last week I completed my 9th acupuncture treatment by Tina Howard of Hummingbird Acupuncture and I am pain-free for the first time in years!
I have seen a variety of Kaiser physicians for pain throughout the years. Not one of these doctors referred me to acupuncture for the pain in my hands or my feet.
I wanted to share this story because I believe I could have been spare many painful years if I had received it sooner. Also, this possibly could have prevented some of these surgeries. I wonder how many other Kaiser patients could have had pain relief if they had received acupuncture. Some Kaiser doctors don't seem to be giving this as a choice of treatment. I took it upon myself to find out about it and that is the only reason I was fortunate enough to receive it.

I am so fortunate to have found Tina Howard. She treated my sore, swollen, arthritic knees (from tennis!) and they improved immediately after treatment. My feet even warmed up. Two months later, my knees are still in pretty good shape. I had a quite an interesting experience after she performed a liver massage. I unexpectedly released some pent-up emotion and the following day I felt so connected to the world as if my brain was in a higher state of consciousness. I am so grateful for your help.

I read that acupuncture is great for anxiety and compulsive eating habits, which I suffer from, so decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. I immediately felt a sense of calm that I have never felt before. All that chatter in my head that consumes my day and leaves me feeling absolutely exhausted was gone. I actually feel in control of my eating habits again. I am very impressed with acupuncture and with Tina.

Acupuncture with Tina was a great experience. She took the time to explain everything about what she was doing. My neck and shoulders felt amazing a few days after treatment.

I went to Tina for acupuncture after realizing the medicine that was prescribed for me was doing absolutely nothing for the severe pain beginning in my hip area and extending to down my leg. After several treatments the pain in my hip was gone and I have not taken any pain medication in over 4 months. I realize the treatments that I have gotten from Tina have helped in many ways. My blood pressure is back to an acceptable rate and stress level is much lower.

I had suffered most of my life from sciatica problems and additional back pain from a misaligned body due to a mild form of Cerebral Palsy at birth. Traditional Western medicine was limited to pain medication and physical therapy. Neither of which was helpful. In the spring of 2007 I had my first acupuncture treatment. Within a few months, the pain was completely eliminated. For the first time in my life, I had no pain!
— Female, late 40s
I chose acupuncture over traditional Western Medicine to help heal an acute injury to my heels and ankles. As a former dancer, I am very familiar with approaches used by physical therapists and doctors, and have not been impressed with the results. After my first treatment with Tina, the swelling decreased significantly as did the pain. After a second treatment, I am fully recovered.

I have been dependent on western medicine for most of my adult life, skeptical of alternatives. And, it was with a bit of skepticism that I approached Tina for assistance to nagging concerns. She gently led me down a path of healing, not dismissing western medicine but slowly and surely incorporating the use of herbs, vitamins, massage and acupuncture. It has enriched my life by providing additional tools for healing.

My first experience with acupuncture was amazing. Tina is a true healer and made my sessions insightful and exciting. I learned a lot about the type of healing she gives and I learned a lot about myself in the process. I would recommend her in a heart beat and will continue to see her myself.

If you’ve ever thought about going to see an acupuncturist I would definitely recommend Tina Howard. She is quite knowledgeable and attentive; and really listens to what her patient’s are telling her. Tina’s gentle and nurturing approach to acupuncture helps make the experience relaxing where one leaves with a sense of wellness and peace. I would recommend Tina to anyone who wants to feel better.
